INVOS* Cerebral Oximeters

This cerebral oximeter is a trend monitor of brain haemodynamics. It is a device that uses near-infrared spectroscopy to measure changes in the balance between oxygen supply and demand within a sample of blood in the cerebral cortex (Regional Oxygen Saturation or rSO2). Since the majority of blood in the brain is “venous”, changes in values are influenced by the critical balance between cerebral oxygen delivery and consumption. Imbalances are identified by changes in rSO2 .
